Daniel Perret is a historian and archaeologist with the École française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO), currently serving as the
Head of the EFEO Centre in Kuala Lumpur. He earned his Ph.D. in History from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS),
Paris, in 1994, and has since conducted research in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Southern Thailand. His research interests include the
archaeology and history of proto-urban and urban sites in Southeast Asia (9th–early 20th centuries); the art history of Islamic tombs in
maritime Southeast Asia (14th–18th centuries); the history of South Asian communities in maritime Southeast Asia (late 13th–late 17th
centuries); and the history of epigraphic research in Southeast Asia.
